hotham park 2010

Bognor Regis WI started from scratch in the autumn of 2009 and is going from strength to strength; we now have a diverse and friendly membership of 71. We vary in age – from young to not so young and all stages in between – in lifestyles – all of us work, some in the workplace, some in a voluntary capacity and some in the home – and in home situation.

What we have in common is a keen interest in our local community and in the wider world, a desire to learn new skills and the wish to connect with other women.

We meet once a month for a talk or an event, and additionally we have a wide range of interest groups including walking, craft, theatre and cinema, reading and creative writing, and we arrange regular outings to places of interest.

And of course we are proud to be part of a national women’s organisation and, in a small way, we play our part in shaping policy and choosing the WI resolutions. Current campaigns of the WI include

  • Mission Milk supporting Britain’s dairy farmers
  • Mums Matter – a joint campaign between the WI and Oxfam to improve maternal health in poor countries
  • End Violence against Women – in which the WI is part of a campaigning coalition which aims to create a world in which women and girls are afforded their basic human rights and can live free from violence.

As a group we are warm, welcoming, funny and non-judgmental, so come and see if you like what you find.  We meet on the second Tuesday evening of each month at 7.30 in the hall at Bognor Regis Methodist Church, Waterloo Square, Bognor Regis, PO21 1ST.

(NB Because of of our size our membership is closed at the moment, but this will be reviewed at the end of the year when we see how many members renew for next year.  In the meantime anyone is very welcome to come along to a meeting as a guest a couple of times to see how you like it).
