Report on our Resolutions meeting in May

Lesley, Ann and Sue

Our May meeting was well attended by both members and guests. Our President,  Janet Perkins, welcomed Ann Jones from Rustington WI as our resolutions delegate to the annual meeting.

Ann gave us a brief outline of the delegate’s role and then went onto take the votes.
The first resolution, against the closure of public libraries: This meeting urges H.M. Government to maintain support for local libraries as an essential local educational and information resource, received a majority vote with only one vote against.
The second resolution against the proposed mega farms: “This meeting abhors the practice of factory farming particularly large animals such as pigs and cows and urges H.M. Government to ensure planning permission is NOT granted for such projects, prompted much discussion.
Lesley Hiley and Sue Kinnaird both gave informative arguments for and against Mega Farms. Various questions were asked and answered. The vote FOR this resolution was unanimous.
After a refreshing cup of tea, we all thoroughly enjoyed the Inspirational Women Through the Ages quiz,  which was devised and produced by Sheila Booth. Much laughter and debate was heard from all teams.
Another informative and enjoyable WI meeting for us all. Keep up the good work everyone!
