Members were asked at our November meeting to bring Christmas presents for children who are being helped by the charity Home-Start, and the response in December was great!  Some of the Home-Start volunteers came to receive the gifts and told us a little bit about the charity.

Home-Start helps families with young children deal with whatever life throws at them. They support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.

Volunteers can help in three areas – visiting families at home to provide support, friendship and emotional and practical help; as trustees helping with the administration and management of the charity; and helping with a play group where parents can come with their children, meet other parents and talk about any issues they have.  The charity is in need of more volunteers; click here to find out more about it.

We were told to expect a Bumper Raffle – and we got it!  Many thanks must go to Janet for organizing it and the other raffles we’ve had this year – I think this time most of us won a prize!

We also had an entertaining Christmas Quiz.  Thanks go to Angela for organizing this, and to Jan for acting as quizmistress in Angela’s absence – even if she did call out questions 15 and 16 out of sequence and completely confused us all!

Our committee provided a very tasty spread during which some of us were entertained with some traditional games, one of which seemed to bemuse Sue, and the other delighted Rosemary!

All in all it was a very pleasant end to a very pleasant and successful year.  I’m sure 2014 will prove to be just as enjoyable – for those who were not at the meeting click here to see what’s in store next year.
