For our August event this year our committee organized a Bubbly Afternoon tea. As with the previous few years, this took place in the Rowland Rank Hall in Aldwick. We usually seem to have some rain on the day and this year was no exception. Hence, we had to be inside but this didn’t matter as the hall is such a pleasant one, with very large windows making it light and airy.

Many of our members arrived in their best ‘frocks’, some with matching shoes, they looked splendid and very much in keeping with the occasion. After being welcomed with a ‘strawberry cocktail’, a fresh strawberry topped with pink sparkling wine, we did what we do best … had a good chat! Then Lesley ran an amusing game reminiscent of ‘Deal or No Deal’, but with the boxes and money replaced by gift bags and toiletries!

We then enjoyed a very tasty savoury buffet … and continued chatting!  After the buffet some of us moved tables so we could catch up with different friends, and we were plied with the sweet part of the afternoon …. trifles … an amazing variety of cakes … delicious tiny lemon cream scones …. and many pots of tea ….I was stuffed!!!!

It wouldn’t be a WI occasion without a raffle and we had a huge one … as usual organized with great skill by Janet.  

I think I can safely say that everyone enjoyed the afternoon. Everyone contributed some food, but I do think the committee members deserve congratulations and thanks for such a well organized and pleasant event.
