When Daisy Change WI put out a request on social media for WIs to help with a yarn bomb, it caught our interest. Daisy Change WI is the first WI to be set up in the grounds of a Mental Health Trust, offering membership to the female service users, their carers and staff. This newly established WI, which meets twice a month at the Chitra Sethia Autism Centre, Fulbourn Hospital in Cambridge, decided to brighten up the grounds of where they meet with a ‘yarn bomb’. A ‘yarn bomb’ is a type of art which uses brightly coloured wool, either knitted or crocheted, within a specified area.
For their yarn bomb, Daisy Change WI requested daisies – and lots of them, so that they could be joined together to create large and beautiful daisy chains around their grounds.
For some of our members this was an easy request, for others less so. Our president Lesley used the opportunity to improve her crochet skills and with lots of practice went from this…
In a few short weeks members crocheted and knitted 40 daisies for Daisy Change WI – and they will be hand delivered to Joanne Croxford, who established Daisy Change WI, by our delegate Jan at the NFWI AGM on 4th June at the Royal Albert Hall, London. Thank-you to all our members who contributed daisies.
