The final meeting of the year was passed in a blur of festive cheer.  Members arrived dressed to sparkle to find the hall decorated, the tables set with beautiful flower arrangements, a quiz to exercise the brain, nibbles and jugs of mulled juice. There was also a voting list on which members could have a say in the choice of charity for the branch to support next year.

After a warm welcome from President Dinah the fun began! The newly formed Acting Up group gave us two hilarious skits – one a take on the Class Sketch from the Frost Report, but featuring the WI hierarchy, and the other a ‘cookery demonstration’ with audience participation (click here for  review). The packed agenda continued with games, including Heads or Tails and the Naughty or Nice game (more here), the final competition of the year.

After refreshments, including a wonderful spread of Christmas food, the quiz answers were given and the winner (of a sack of gold coins!) announced.

Then, to a flurry of jingle bells, Mother Christmas arrived with beautifully wrapped presents for all, after which the rafters shook as members sang the cleverly re-written (unofficial) WI 12 days of Christmas.

The evening ended with Dinah, on behalf of the Committee, wishing all members a safe journey home, a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
