Our drama group is getting established.
After its first tentative production of two sketches at our WI Christmas party, there is some enthusiasm to do more. Whilst ideas are worked through, the trainee thespians are building their confidence and broadening the scope of what they might have a go at, through drama exercises at their meetings. Some of the ideas tried include adlibbing very short sketches, either using a given scenario or a given prop; miming out emotions; building up a story with a sentence or two from each member and acting out a given role, such as a receptionist.
The aim of the drama group is to try different forms of acting in a fun and safe group. We have agreed to laugh, but not make fun of each other, and see everything as the chance to build up confidence. We are exploring and developing our own acting abilities, in an expressive and entertaining way.
There is room for more members in the drama group – for those who just want to try something different, and for those who may be able to bring some existing skills or experiences connected to drama to the group. The meetings are generally in the evenings for 2 hours, including tea/coffee and other refreshment on a pre-agreed date. The frequency will depend on what the group is doing at the point in time – but usually once a month, unless a production is imminent!
