Five members had agreed to open their gardens for members to come and enjoy. It took a lot of hard work and planning to carry out this seemingly simple thing. So when we looked out of the window first thing on Saturday and saw the rain we were a little crestfallen to say the least. Luckily the weather fairies took pity on us and the sun began to shine just before we opened the gates!
The five gardens were all very different. There was June Salter’s garden with a tranquil Japanese theme, Barbara Foster’s garden with wonderful vegetables and colourful flower beds and Lesley Hiley’s wonderfully colourful wildlife friendly garden. Barbara also sold cups of tea with homemade cake to thirsty visitors and there was a craft exhibition and a plant sale in two of the other gardens.
It turned out to be a wonderful afternoon for all of us gardeners and visitors alike. There were a lot of very smiley faces and much happy chattering going on and all our visitors commented on how much they enjoyed the gardens. So here’s to next year – maybe you would like to open your garden ………..!
